PA Turnpike Restricts Access To All Service Plazas

PENNSYLVANIA — The Pennsylvania Turnpike is limiting services at its plazas statewide amidst the coronavirus outbreak, they announced Tuesday.

It comes the day after they said cash and credit cards would no longer be accepted at tollbooths, and drivers should just continue through and get invoiced by mail.

The partial closures impact all 17 of the Turnpike’s service plazas. No fast food or inside dining will be available.

There are now 96 cases of coronavirus in the state as officials move to put stricter measures in place to control its spread.

In addition, inside restrooms are closed. Portable toilets are available.

Gas stations remain open, as well as their convenience stores.

The portable toilets will be regularly cleaned and receive “special cleaning attention,” the Turnpike said.

Every plaza will have two handwashing stations.

The Allentown Service Plaza remains completely closed due to fuel tank replacement that had been previously scheduled.

The Turnpike has also halted all construction projects.
