NORRISTOWN, PA — The long awaited Black Lives Matter mural in downtown Norristown was unveiled during a ceremony on Friday afternoon, with officials hailing the display as a symbol of unity and justice.

Volunteers worked all week to bring the vision of a pair of local artists — Norristown native Jeleata Nicole and Philadelphia's Drew Montemayor — to life. The mural is located on the blacktop on the 400 block of Swede street at the Montgomery County Courthouse.

"The design is an intricate assortment of colors and symbols of peace," organizers said. "(It) includes people who have become immortalized in the quest to make sure that black lives matter: civil rights activist and late Congressman John Lewis; civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and George Floyd, the man killed by a Minneapolis police officer in 2020."
