After a countywide search, a new First Dog has been officially crowned, along with several runners-up.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — After a wide-ranging search, Montgomery County has officially crowned its new "Top Dog."

Louie, a resident of Bala Cynwyd, came out on top of the public dog photo contest run by the county.

“Louis is a sweet, loving dog who is always by our side," his proud parents said. He's known as the "pandemic puppy," as he was born in May 2020.

“Louis, whose full name is Louis Pasteur Croissant, loves to play in the snow, go on hikes and snuggle with his favorite humans," they added.

The contest was launched in late January in celebration of Major Biden, the first shelter dog to ever live in the White House, and to raise awareness for shelter dogs and the need for adoptions.

More than 400 entries were received from across the county.

"Residents enjoyed showcasing their dogs and the judges had a difficult time in their selection”, said Montgomery County Treasurer Jason Salus.

In addition to Louis, several honorable mentions were also awarded. The winners will all be used as representatives on the county's official dog licensing website.

Entries were judged by the sheriff's office and the district attorney's office.
