Pottsgrove Manor To Offer Virtual and In-Person Summer Events

POTTSTOWN, PA —Montgomery County has announced a number of virtual and in-person programs that will be hosted this summer by Pottsgrove Manor in Pottstown.

The home, located at 100 W King St., was built in 1752 for John Potts, an ironmaster, merchant, judge, politician and founder of Pottstown. The house has been restored to recreate the lifestyle and times of the Potts family.

Among the scheduled events are:

Community of Pottstown Virtual Roundtable: (Virtual) 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 12: The staff of Pottsgrove Manor will share stories about the lives of the first people who called Pottstown home. Following the conversation there will be a Q&A. This program will be livestreamed on the Pottsgrove Manor's Facebook Page.

People and Places, Historic Walking Tours of Pottstown: (In-Person) 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesday June 21 (In-Person): Staff of Pottsgrove Manor will conduct guided walking tours of downtown Pottstown, highlighting the places where the grist mills, taverns, schools and homes were in the first days of the community. The tours will begin at Smith Family Place, 138 E. High Street, and last approximately an hour. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable footwear and bring drinking water. Resolved to Erect a Town, the Origins of Pottstown: Lecture by Dan Graham: (In-Person) 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday July 14: Potts family author and researcher Dan Graham will trace Pottstown's development and milestones since John Potts first advertised the town in 1791. Attendees are asked to bring a lawn chair to this outdoor lecture. A $2 donation is suggested.

Open House Days: Historic Cooking and Collections Curiosities: (In-Person) 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on four Saturdays in August (Aug. 7, 14, 21, 28): The public can see select 18th-century items from the Pottsgrove Manor collection up close and ask question to the curator. Or, visitors can find historic summer treats, which will be created in the kitchen. Plus, the first floor museum will be open for visitors to explore.

August 7: Collections Curiosity: etui, a small decorative case for holding personal items, which was owned by John Potts

August 14: Historic Cooking: fruity colonial waters

August 21: Collections Curiosity: 18th-century calash, a collapsible women's bonnet

August 28: Historic Cooking: Ice cream
