PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Sixers won Game 2 of their opening round playoff series against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night in blowout fashion, 120-95. And towards the tail end of the game, Wizards star Russell Westbrook had to leave to get treated for an ankle injury. So what happened afterwards was the all more inexcusable.

As Wizards star Russell Westbrook was walking off the court into the tunnel to the locker rooms, a fan reached over the seats and dumped popcorn down on his head.

Westbrook exploded when he realized what had happened, and a group of security and team personnel had to restrain him from getting up into the stands.

The move was met with anger from around the league. In a postgame interview, Westbrook said he'd "had problems here (in Philadelphia) before."

"I wouldn't come up to me on the street and throw popcorn on my head, because you know what happens," he added, according to ESPN.

"We apologize to Russell Westbrook and the Washington Wizards for being subjected to this type of unacceptable and disrespectful behavior," the Sixers said in a statement. "There is no place for it in our sport or arena."

The Sixers added that the fan was a season ticket holder and that he would be banned.

"After an investigation into the incident that occurred at last night's game, we have determined that the person involved will have his season ticket membership revoked, effective immediately," the statement reads. "In addition, he will be banned from all events at Wells Fargo Center indefinitely."

LeBron James also reacted, saying that the fan should be identified.

"There's cameras all over arenas so there's no excuse!" he said.

The Wells Fargo statement issued a statement condemning the incident.

"This was classless, unacceptable behavior, and we're not going to tolerate it at Wells Fargo Center," said Valerie Camillo, president of business operations at the Center. "We're proud to have the most passionate fans in the country and the best home-court and home-ice advantage around, but this type of behavior has no place in our arena."

Game 3 will be held in Washington at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
