Day 3 Of Montco Snowstorm: 248 Accidents, 3,898 Calls To 911

More than a foot of snow fell in many parts of the county, while residents emboldened by slightly better conditions became stranded Tuesday.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — More than a foot of snow fell in some parts of Montgomery County, as the powerful ongoing storm continued to dump precipitation well into Tuesday afternoon.

A total of 248 accidents and 294 disabled vehicles have been reported amidst the storm since noon on Sunday, county officials said late Tuesday. That included just 57 accidents Tuesday, but 163 disabled vehicles, as better conditions emboldened more residents to take to the roads.

Additionally, the county's Public Safety Operations Center in Eagleville fielded a total of 3,898 calls to 911 between noon Sunday and 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Roads remain dangerous, and residents are urged to remain at home and not in their vehicles.

"Our Roads and Bridges crews were out last night for the second night plowing and treating road," Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh said Tuesday morning. "We continue to see a mix of slow, sleet, and rain. While the roads are passable, they can be icy and dangerous in certain locations.”

Significant snowfall is expected into Tuesday afternoon, with more accumulation coming.

Sunday and Monday saw 191 vehicle accidents and 131 disabled vehicles in Montgomery County, officials said.

Despite that, there were limited power outages and no significant road closures as of early Tuesday, officials said.

All coronavirus testing sites are closed in Montgomery County Tuesday, as is the vaccine clinic at Montgomery County Community College. Those who had vaccine appointments have had them automatically rescheduled for Thursday, Feb. 4 at Norristown Area High School.

Montgomery County Courts, as well as other facilities and government offices, are also closed, officials said. They had originally called for a two-hour delay but shifted course in the morning.
