Montco COVID-19 Surge: These Towns Had Most, Least New Cases

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — The latest surge of COVID-19 continued over the past week in Montgomery County and across Pennsylvania, as case numbers steadily rose.

Despite the rapid rise in vaccinations and the slow approach to herd immunity, the county has seen rises in all six of the key metrics tracked by the Pennsylvania Department of Health's Early Warning Monitoring Dashboard System.

That includes a positivity rate that has leapt up to 8.1 percent this week, after sitting at 5.7 percent last week. All healthcare metrics have seen slight rises, including average daily hospitalizations due to coronavirus, up to 169 from 136.

The most recently tracked data also shows an increase in total cases last week, from 995 the week previous to 1,360.

The area that has seen the largest increases lately is the far eastern and northeastern stretches of the county, bordering Philadelphia. Townships like Abington, Cheltenham, and Upper Moreland have among the highest new case totals over the last 30 days.

While these are heavily populated areas, this latest surge hasn't been quite as pronounced in other population centers like Norristown or Pottstown.
