Two Armed Robberies, Shots Fired Under Investigation Sunday Night

According to Norristown's Interim Police Chief Willie Richet, his department is investigating two armed robberies that have been reported within an hour of one another on the east side of town between 8 and 9 p.m. Sunday night. More than an hour earlier, officers were investigating a report of shots fired in the area of 800 Green St.

County radio reports sometime around 8:30 p.m. indicated the Getty Service Station at 301 East Johnson Highway was robbed by two armed black males who stole an unknown amount of cash and fled on foot.

That report was followed less than 30 minutes later by a report of another armed robbery, this time of a grocery store in the area of DeKalb and Jacoby streets. The individuals were again two armed black males.

According to Chief Richet, the two men are described a black males, approximately 5-foot-10, wearing all black and armed with handguns. The pair reportedly fled west on Jacoby Street leaving a trail of money behind them as they fled. It was not immediately clear Sunday night if the two armed robberies are related.

Norristown Police are being assisted by Lower Merion K9 units who are tracking the men, but results of the search were negative at the time of this post.

Chief Richet confirmed a police investigation of a report of shots fired in the 800 block of Green Street earlier this evening. There were no victims in that incident and no witnesses or evidence could be found at the scene, though several neighbors reported hearing the shots.

Patch readers in the area said that Green Street was taped off between Jacoby and Oak streets while police investigated sometime around 7:20 p.m. Sunday night.

No injuries have been reported in any of the incidents Sunday evening.
