`Dirty Dancing' Tops 5 Weekend Things To Do Around Upper St. Clair

UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA - “Nobody puts Baby in a corner.” Who wouldn’t want to hear those immortal lines from a classic movie performed live?

“Dirty Dancing” returns to Pittsburgh to tell a tale of passionate romance. It features sensational dancing and heart-pounding music from an eight-piece band live onstage playing classic songs such as “Hungry Eyes,” “Hey Baby,” and, of course, the show-stopping “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.”

The story takes place in 1963, when 17-year-old Frances “Baby” Houseman is on vacation in New York’s Catskill Mountains. Sparks fly, passion ignites and Baby’s life forever changes when she meets Johnny Castle, the resort’s sexy dancing instructor. We’d reveal more of the plot, but we’re sure you’re already familiar with it.

You can see this classic as part of the PNC Broadway Series at Heinz Hall on May 27 at 2 p.m and 8 p.m. and May 28 at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. “Dirty Dancing” tickets start at $31.

• Cirque du Soleil Ovo, May 27 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., May 28 1:30 and 5 p.m., Petersen Events Center, Oakland.

“Ovo” means “egg” in Portuegese, but don’t expect expect to see and any omelette making demonstrations. This offering from the ubiquitous Canadian entertainment company concerns a colorful ecosystem where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter and do other, you know, insecty things. Ovo is about how they react when a mysterious egg appears in their midst. Cirque du Soleil Ovo tickets start at $25 for children and $53 for adults.

• Greater Pittsburgh Food Truck Festival, May 27, 12-8 p.m.; May 28, 11-7 p.m., the Meadows Casino, Washington.

This annual heartburn-inspiring event will bring more than 40 food trucks to the casino. Sample them all if you want, but don’t complain to us of stomach issues later. The festival also features live music and entertainment, craft beer and wine, regional artisans and vendors, a children’s area and more. • Open Streets Pittsburgh, May 28, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. , Downtown, Uptown, South Side

The e Open Streets program kicks off its fourth year with a new route with the closure to vehicles of 3.7 miles of streets from Market Square to Uptown, then over the Birmingham Bridge to the South Side. For four hours, these car-free streets will be open to people of all ages to walk, run, bike, dance, shop and people watch. The event is free. • Sweet Horror 2.0, May 28, 1- 4 p.m. at the East End Brewing Co., Homewood

Why not mix a little Halloween in with your Memorial Day activities? Sweet Horror 2.0 is a pop-up event featuring vegan treats and horror- and pop culture-inspired art. It’s probably worth going just so see the hand-painted, horror-themed clothespin creations of Undeadhead Designs, but the fact that there also will be craft beer and vegan snacks (probably something with avocado) on hand should also inspire you to get off the sofa on Sunday.
