Five Things To Do This Weekend, Upper St. Clair

Batman, Robin, Spider-Man among those appearing.

Although Superman and Thor won’t be in Pittsburgh this weekend, it still will be superhero central in town. If you’re looking for something to do before the Easter holiday, there’s no lack of options:

  • Steel City Con, Monroeville Convention Center, April 8, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; April 9, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

This likely is your last chance to see Adam West and Burt Ward, the aging iconic stars of the 1960s TV show “Batman.” Both have stated this will be their final comic con appearance in Pittsburgh. Also appearing will be Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films) and Anthony Daniels (C3PO in the Star Wars franchise. Tickets start at $23.

  • Shrine Circus, PPG Paints Arena, April 8 at 10:30 a.m. 2:30 and 7:30 p.m.; April 9 at 7 p.m.

The 68th annual Shrine circus, which raises money for 22 Shriners hospitals for children, will feature a flying Spider-Man, the Fabulous Flying Pages trapeze troupe and - you knew it was coming - Brian “The Human Fuse” Miser being shot out of a cannon. Tickets start at $20.

  • “The King and I,” Benedum Center, April 8 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; April 9 at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

One of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s finest works, this Lincoln Center Theater production was described by The New York Times as “breathtaking and exquisite.” The score includes such classic songs as “Getting To Know You,” “I Whistle a Happy Tune,” “Hello Young Lovers,” “Shall We Dance” and “Something Wonderful.” Tickets start at $26.

  • Lewis Black, Heinz Hall, April 8 at 8 p.m.

The beautifully belligerent comedian, author and playwright brings his “Rant White & Blue Tour” to Pittsburgh.Black is one of a few performers to sell out multiple renowned theaters, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and most recently, a sold-out Broadway run at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City. No wonder that back in 2004, Black was voted 51st of the 100 greatest stand-up comedians of all time by Comedy Central. Tickets start at $39.50.

  • The Decemberists, with Julien Baker, Stage AE, April 8 at 8 p.m.

This eclectic band from Portland, Oregon, has a diverse catalog of songs ranging from mournful guitar ballads to fiddle-driven folk singalongs. You’ll need to keep restroom and beer runs to a minimum during the performance because the Decemberists often ask for audience involvement in their performances. Click here for ticket information.
