Proposed Law Would Permit PA Car Dealerships To Reopen

HARRISBURG, PA - The state House is considering legislation that would allow car dealerships to reopen during the coronavirus outbreak. Under the measure, introduced by state Rep. Natalie Mihalek of Allegheny County, the Department of Community and Economic Development would issue a waiver permitting dealerships to operate under Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Guidelines.

The bill has passed the House State Government Committee and now will be considered by the entire House.

“I know one of our primary functions as a government is to keep our citizens safe from harm. However, there has to be a balance between the preservation of public health and absolute economic devastation,” Mihalek said in a release. “Our surrounding states have found a way to keep these sales moving with zero human interaction, and I think we can do that here too. We can do this smartly for our businesses and we can do this safely for our consumers.”
