Steel City Con Tops 5 Things To Do Around Upper St. Clair This Weekend

There's also the Three Rivers Arts Festival, a free community dance party and more.

UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA - Nothing against the last weekend of the Three Rivers Arts Festival, but how can it hope to compete with the likes of Eddie Munster and a cast reunion of one of the best zombie movies ever to be filmed in a mall?

The latest incarnation of Steel City Con again will bring together some of the biggest names of classic horror movies and TV shows. Expected to attend are Butch Patrick (Eddie from “The Munsters”) Linda Blair (Regan from “The Exorcist”), Cassandra Peterson (Elvira)and Scott Wilson (Hershel from “The Walking Dead”)

If that’s not enough there also will be a “Dawn of the Dead” reunion featuring virtually every cast member from the original 1978 version of the movie, which famously was filmed at Monroeville Mall.

Steel City Con takes place at the Monroeville Convention Center from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on June 10 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 11. Steel City Con tickets are $35 for Saturday and $23 for Sunday, but children under 10 get in free with a paid adult admission.

Other weekend highlights:

  • Three Rivers Arts Festival, June 10 and 11, Cultural District, Gateway Center and Point State Park, Downtown

Ten days of arts and crafts, a myriad of food trucks and mostly lousy weather comes to an end this weekend with a smorgasbord of free musical acts playing the Dollar Bank Stage in Point State Park.
If bluegrass is your thing, you’ll want to head down on Saturday for Bluegrass Day, headlined by Sarah Jarosz, winner of the 2017 Grammy for the best folk album. She’ll play the main stage at 7:30. On Sunday, soul-based rock band St. Paul and the Broken Bones will close the festival with a 7:30 show. Expect the rotten weather we’ve had to dramatically improve as soon as their set concludes.

  • “An American in Paris,” June 10, 2 and 8 p.m.; June 11 1 and 6:30 p.m. Benedum Center, Downtown.

This new production about an American soldier and a mysterious French girl, which won more awards than any other Broadway musical in the 2014-15 season, is in Pittsburgh on its first national tour. Director-choreographer and 2015 Tony Award winner Christopher Wheeldon intertwines the magical and romantic characteristics of Paris with the unforgettable score by George and Ira Gershwin. “An American in Paris” tickets start at $40.
