Washington Road Traffic Signal System Improvements Slated
The corridor is one of seven in Allegheny County where traffic congestion will be targeted.

UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA - Traffic should be flowing more smoothly soon after adaptive traffic signal systems are installed along seven major commuting corridors in Allegheny County - including Route 19, Washington Road in Upper St. Clair.
The Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission, a regional planning agency has announced the signal upgrades for these roads as well:
- Route 51, Clairton Boulevard, in Pittsburgh, Baldwin, Brentwood, Whitehall, Pleasant Hills and Jefferson Hills.
- West Liberty Avenue and Washington Road in Pittsburgh, Dormont and Mt. Lebanon.
- Route 19, Banksville Road in Pittsburgh.
- Route 88, Library Road in Pittsburgh, Castle Shannon and Bethel Park
- Freeport Road in Pittsburgh, Sharpsburg, Aspinwall, Blawnox and O’Hara.
- Freeport Road and Indianola Road in Harmar.
An adaptive traffic control system changes traffic signal timing based on actual traffic demand via hardware and software systems. Such systems already are in place along Route 19 in McCandless and Pine Townships and on U.S. 22 in Murrysville and Monroeville.
