Burrillville Vet Who Ran Scituate Animal Hospital Dead at 82
Alfred C. Parrillo, DVM, cared for generations of pets and was Rhode Island's public health veterinarian for many years.
BURRILLVILLE — A veterinarian who cared for generations of family pets while promoting animal welfare on the state level died Thursday at the age of 82.
Alfred C. Parrillo, DVM, died peacefully at home while surrounded by his family, according to Legacy.com. Parillo, of Mapleville, was former owner of the Scituate Animal Hospital. He worked as a veterinarian for 55 years before retiring at age 79.

Parillo was the public health veterinarian for the state of Rhode Island for many years and wrote the state’s first animal welfare law in 1972. In his later years, Parrillo became deeply involved in the welfare of horses.
Parrillo, a dedicated member of St. Thomas Church, leaves his husband, John A. Gallonio; three children, several grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and many family members, including his brother, Dr. Douglas W. Parrillo of Burrillville. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Anthony M. and Beatrice G. (Jones) Parrillo.
