CENTRAL FALLS, RI — A free kayaking program for kids is now up and running and accepting applications.

The city's parks and recreation department launched the youth kayak program with the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council. Last month everybody — including Gov. Dan McKee — showed up to celebrate at a ribbon-cutting at Central Falls Landing.

The new program introduces children and youth from Central Falls to the sport of paddling, and gets them out on the Blackstone River to enjoy nature. Mayor Maria Rivera this week encouraged families to participate and wished everybody a safe and healthy summer.
