RI State Police Plan 'Sensory Friendly Safety Day'

The event for people with autism and special needs is slated for June 5 at the North Scituate barracks.

NORTH SCITUATE — The Rhode Island State Police, in conjunction with the Public Safety Special Needs Coalition, is hosting an open house for individuals with Autism, Developmental Disabilities, and other special needs.

Attendees and their families will have the opportunity to meet and talk with state troopers and local police, firefighters and rescue personnel in a fun, safe, and sensory-friendly environment. These interactions may help to reduce the anxiety often associated with first responders in emergency situations, RISP said in a news release.
