SMITHFIELD, RI — Brown Medicine, a Rhode Island primary care and subspecialty medical group, is opening a new facility in Smithfield in May 2021, said the company in a news release Monday.

The new facility, located in the Smithfield Office Center at 900 Douglas Pike, will also house other medical practices under Brown Physicians, Inc., including dermatology and neurology.

“We are very excited about expanding our presence to the northern part of the state, and eager to provide services to patients from this area,” said Dr. Louis B. Rice, president of Brown Medicine, in a statement. “We are conveniently located off Route 295 and Route 7 and offer plenty of free parking.”

Brown Medicine, which has over 200 physicians statewide, supports the ‘patient centered medical home’ model of care, which allows for collaboration and coordination between primary care and subspecialty physicians.

“Our patients will experience a facility that features work spaces for physically distanced collaboration between doctors, other clinicians and administrative personnel; as well as reception and check-out areas optimized for safe traffic flow,” adds Dr. Rice. “It is designed to be responsive to and centered around patient needs and our desired outcomes for the highest quality of care.”
