Town Of Smithfield To Host Large-Scale Recycling Event

The event will take place Saturday, July 17 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

SMITHFIELD, RI — The Town of Smithfield will be hosting a large-scale recycling event on Saturday, June 17 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Smithfield Department of Public Works (DPW).

The event will give residents an opportunity to dispose of objects that are typically more difficult to recycle, including mattresses and box springs, electronics, and rigid plastic. There will also be sensitive document shredding available to individual households.

Residents who are looking to get rid of a mattress or box spring can call 401-233-1034 ext. 105 to make an appointment. The items must be clean and dry.

Electronics that will be accepted with no charge include computers, routers, monitors, TVs, laptops, mice, keyboards, ink-jet printers, toner cartridges, wires and cables, microwaves, CD and DVD players, phones, stereo equipment, speakers, play stations, small appliances, lead acid batteries, battery back-ups, and auto and marine batteries.

Items that will be accepted for a $10 fee include laser jet printers, coolant containing appliances such as air conditioners and dehumidifiers, and wood encased speakers.

Rigid plastic items must be 100% rigid plastic, empty and clean, never contained a hazardous substance, no larger than a 95-gallon recycling bin, and no smaller than a hard hat.

This recycling event is open to Smithfield residents only and participants will be required to follow COVID-19 guidelines. For more information, email recycle@smithfieldri.com.
