Bryant University In Smithfield Awarded $650k Science Grant
The money will fund the university's new STEM Scholars program.
SMITHFIELD, RI — Bryant University in Smithfield has been awarded $650,000 grant from the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program, according to a news release from the school.
The grant will fund the university's new STEM Scholars program, which provides scholarships and programming to students who wish to pursue STEM education, but experience barriers due to financial need.
“Bryant is a leading university in the Northeast for education at the intersection of business, liberal arts and STEM,” says Bryant University President Ross Gittell in a statement.“Our distinctive real-world education prepares future leaders to succeed in an increasingly data, science and technology-driven economy and 40% of Bryant students pursue a STEM major, minor or concentration.

"We are grateful that this NSF grant will allow us to expand student opportunities in growing STEM and related fields," he continued.
Approximately 75% of the grant will be used to fund scholarships, said the university. The STEM Scholars program will provide incoming students with access to comprehensive instructional support, faculty and peer mentorship, experiential learning opportunities, the Innovation and Design Experience for All (IDEA) program, the Amica Center for Career Education, and programs for Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
