Collision Kills Watertown, MA Man On Putnam Pike In Smithfield
The crash occurred Sunday afternoon near the Fuel Depot on Route 44.
SMITHFIELD, RI — A Watertown, MA man was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Route 44 in Smithfield Sunday afternoon.
The crash occurred about 1:30 p.m. near the Fuel Depot on Putnam Pike. Smithfield police said on Monday morning that a converted military truck hit the back of a car, forcing it into oncoming traffic, where it collided head-on with a car driven by John McKenzie, 68, of Watertown, who suffered fatal injuries.
Police said the passenger in McKenzie's car was seriously injured. The man driving the truck and a woman driving the car that was rear-ended were not hurt.
