This week, film crews are spending time at Kent Hospital in Warwick, which is where Paz recovered after a near-fatal car wreck broke his neck and almost ended his career.

The film is being produced by East Greenwich’s Verdi Productions. Martin Scorsese has signed on to executive produce the movie, which stars Miles Teller, Aaron Eckhart, Katey Sagal and Ciarán Hinds.

Hinds is widely known for his role as Mance Rayder on the hit series Game of Thrones; and Katey Sagal, for her roles on Married with Children, Sons of Anarchy, and Futurama.

Miles Teller will star as the hardscrabble boxer who rose to international stardom as he battled his way to five world championships.

His remarkable career is highlighted by that near-fatal car crash that broke his neck and left him unsure if he’d walk again.

A fighter, he started to recover against the odds and Rhode Islanders will never forget the image of a broken but still fiercely determined Vinny Paz wearing a neck and head brace with screws drilled into his skull. He announced his comeback against doctors orders and went to the gym under the guidance of infamous trainer Kevin Rooney ( Aaron Eckhart) and made a triumphant return to the ring just over a year later.

Hinds and Sagal will play Paz’s mom and dad.

Ben Younger (2005’s Prime) is writing and directing Bleed for This. Younger is also producing with Chad A. Verdi, Bruce Cohen, Emma Tillinger Koskoff and Noah Kraft. Michelle Verdi and Joshua Sasonare are executive producing.

“My wife Michelle and I are very happy that we were able to put together such a great team to tell Vinny’s story and bring it to the big screen.” Verdi said. “This film will put Rhode Island on the map as a destination to make movies at the highest level and create many much needed jobs for the state.”

After Bleed for This is completed, Verdi will join Scorsese and Koskoff again for Silence, starring Andrew Garfield and Liam Neeson.
