Hiker Collapses, Dies In Smithfield Woods On Sunday
Foul play is not suspected, state police said, but detectives were at the scene near exit 12 off Interstate 295.

SMITHFIELD, RI—A hiker collapsed and died in the woods on Sunday off Interstate 295 near exit 12, state police said.
"We were called about 2:30 p.m. about a person who’d collapsed and apparently died in the woods off 295 North, just north of Route 44 in Smithfield," said Laura Meade Kirk, director of public information. The deceased hiker is a man in his 40's. His name has not been released yet.
Kirk said the hiker was accompanied by two other people who called 911. Medics arrived. He was pronounced dead.

"At this time, foul play is not suspected," she said. "However an autopsy is expected to be performed later today."
