Lottery Lightning Strikes Smithfield Twice

A Smithfield store sold that $2 million ticket in Saturday's Powerball drawing. And one man won $20,000 from the Instant Ticket game.

SMITHFIELD, RI—The $2 million winning ticket in Saturday's Powerball drawing was sold in Smithfield, the Rhode Island Lottery said today.

"A $2,000,000 winning PowerBall® PowerPlay® ticket was sold in Rhode Island for Saturday night’s drawing," the Lottery said. The winning ticket matched five numbers, but not the PowerBall® number, to win the standard payout of $1,000,000. However, the winner opted to pay an additional dollar on his/her wager for the PowerPlay® feature, which increased the prize to $2,000,000. Pleasant View Market, 200 Pleasant View Ave., Smithfield, sold the winning ticket."

Three winning tickets worth $2 million were sold, according to the Powerball website. The other $2 million winners are in Texas and in Pennsylvania. They all matched five numbers and added the Power Play option for a dollar and doubled their earnings.
