Obituary: Daniel R. DiChiara, 17

Daniel R. DiChiara, 17, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec. 19.

Daniel R. DiChiara, 17, of Smithfield, passed away suddenly Saturday, December 19, 2015, at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital. He was the beloved son of David M. and Marisa M. (Calabro) DiChiara, and loving brother of David M. DiChiara, Jr. Daniel is also survived by his grandparents, Dalia (Conti) Calabro and the late William A. Calabro, and Salvatore R. DiChiara and the late Claire L. (Kelley) DiChiara.

Dan was a member of the Junior Class at Smithfield High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, the French National Honor Society, and the Academy of Finance. In addition to his scholastic achievements, he was a member of the 2015 State Champion Smithfield High School Football Team and Lacrosse Team.

Dan was an avid fan of football and basketball and loved to get together with family and friends to watch the Patriots and Celtics. Dan was a kind, generous, caring young man with an amazing sense of humor and an infectious smile. He loved his school, friends and above all else, his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a communicant of Saint Philip Church, where he had been an alter server.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, at 11:00 am, in Saint Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Smithfield, to which relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours and flowers are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Daniel R. DiChiara Scholarship Fund, c/o Coach Chris Branch, Smithfield High School, 90 Pleasant View Avenue, Smithfield, RI 02917 in his memory will be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home.
