Rose Ann Oates, 83, of Greenville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Friday, January 15, 2016.

Rose Ann Oates, 83, of Greenville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Friday, January 15, 2016 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. She was the wife of the late Thomas F. Oates, Jr., her childhood sweetheart.
Born in Chepachet, she was a daughter of the late Sidney and Helen V. (Crowley) Bertherman.
Rose Ann and her late husband Tom were the owners of Oates Tavern on Douglas Avenue, North Providence, for many years. She later worked for the State of Rhode Island before retiring.

Mrs. Oates was a 1949 graduate of Saint Xavier Academy and a 1953 graduate of Emmanuel College.
She leaves a daughter, Pamela A. Lang, RN and her husband Thomas Lang, MD; five sons, Commander Thomas F. Oates, III, PPD and his wife Laurie, John J. Oates and his wife Karen, Terrence P. Oates and his wife Kelly, Kevin M. Oates and his companion Margaret Foster and Christopher D. Oates and his wife Maria; two sisters, Catherine Bagwell and Clair Bailey; nineteen loving grandchildren and nine loving great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Sidney Bertherman, and sisters Helen Bertherman and Jennivive Whelan.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, at 9:30 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Saint Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Smithfield. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Visiting hours Tuesday, 3:00 – 7:00 pm.
