​Pedestrian Struck By Car In North Smithfield Sunday Dies
The Massachusetts man was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. He was later pronounced dead.
NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI — A 57-year-old Massachusetts man died Sunday after he was struck by a vehicle on Route 146 in North Smithfield.
In a release, police said Raymond Mercier, of Attleboro, was trying to cross Route 146 northbound at Sayles Hill Road when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a North Smithfield resident around 9:30 p.m.
Mercier was treated on the scene and taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured.

Neither speed nor impairment played a role in the crash, police said. An investigation is ongoing.
