HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- Cumberland native Peter Farrelly thanked the entire state of Rhode Island Sunday night after taking home "Best Picture" and "Best Original Screenplay" at Sunday night's Oscars.

Farrelly was born in Pennsylvania but raised in Cumberland. He is best known for his comedies with his brother Bobby, including "Me, Myself and Irene," "Dumber and Dumber," "Shallow Hal" and more.

"Green Book" is a biographical comedy-drama that tells the story of jazz musician Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali), who hires Tony Vallelonga (Viggo Mortensen) to drive him on a tour through the Deep South. Ali took him the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
