Rhode Island Reports 3,416 New Cases, 38 Deaths In Last 5 Days

The new data brings the total number of coronavirus cases statewide to 85,602 and the total number of deaths to 1,742.

SMITHFIELD, RI—The Rhode Island Department of Health reported Monday that there have been 3,416 new COVID-19 infections and 38 deaths since data was last reported on Wednesday, Dec. 23.

Monday's data, which included five days at once due to a pause in reporting during the Christmas holiday, brings the total number of COVID-19 cases statewide to 85,602 and the total number of deaths to 1,742.

The state administered 8,118 tests on Sunday and currently has a daily positivity rate of 8.1%.

Hospitalization data has not yet been updated for this week. As of Wednesday, 442 COVID-19 patients remained hospitalized, with 49 are in the ICU and 35 using ventilators.
