RI State Police Charge New Yorker With Assault In Scituate
A Scituate police officer was assaulted Sept. 21, police said. Harinson Cruz-Perez is accused. He was returned to Rhode Island last night.

SCITUATE, RI—Harinson Cruz-Perez, 26, of Brooklyn, N.Y., is due in district court today to face charges he assaulted a Scituate police officer back on Sept. 21. He was arrested Oct. 9 in New York City after a state police investigation and was returned to Rhode Island last night. He is being charged, state police said, with these offenses:
- Felony Assault with a Dangerous Weapon on a Law Enforcement Officer
- Eluding a Law Enforcement Officer
- Resisting Arrest
- Duty to Stop in an Accident Resulting in Damage to Vehicle
According to the state police press release, Foster police had pulled him, but he fled. Around 8 p.m., a Scituate police officer tried to stop the same car. Cruz-Perez put the car in reverse and drove toward the officer, who fired three shots as the car sped away, police said. Then, the car crashed into another car, and Cruz-Perez ran away.
Police identified Cruz-Perez after an investigation, and he was arrested. He waived extradition.
