RI Storm Forecast: Winter Weather Advisory for Smithfield & Northwest Corner of the State

The wintry mix is expected to start Thursday night in parts of Rhode Island and last through Saturday.

SMITHFIELD, RI — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Smithfield, Foster and the Northwest corner of the state. It's in effect from Friday at 8 a.m, until Saturday at 8 a.m.

HAZARD TYPES...Snow and sleet with some pockets of freezing rain possible across the hills of northwest Rhode Island.

ACCUMULATIONS...Snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 4 inches,
along with up to a tenth of ice accretion possible in northwest
Rhode Island.

TIMING...A mixture of snow...sleet and rain will overspread the region between 6 am and 10 am Friday morning. The heaviest of the precipitation will hold off until Friday afternoon and night. An extended period of sleet is possible Friday afternoon into Friday night with an impact to the Friday evening rush hour
possible. Most of the precipitation will change to rain Friday night, but some pockets of freezing rain may persist in northwest Rhode Island.

IMPACTS...Snow and particularly sleet accumulations will create slippery travel. While the bulk of the Friday morning rush hour will probably feature wet roads, accumulating sleet possibly mixed with snow will impact the Friday evening rush resulting in slippery travel.
