Route 146 Lane Split To Be Installed Starting Thursday

Route 104 in North Smithfield will be closed this weekend as part of bridge replacement project.

SMITHFIELD, RI — The lane split scheduled for Route 146 North in North Smithfield will begin Thursday so crews can begin work on the road ahead of this weekend's expected inclement weather.

Route 104 in North Smithfield is scheduled to be closed this weekend as part of the Farnum Pike Bridge project to replace the structurally deficient bridge.

Travel lanes on Route 146 will be shifted and narrowed, with one lane open one each side of the split. Drivers are asked to reduce speeds, but not stop or change lanes suddenly. All lanes will go through on the road.

Route 104 at the bridge will be detoured from 8 p.m. Thursday night through the weekend for the first phase of bridge demolition. Detours will be noted.

Exit 11 on Route 146 will be closed until November. Drivers should use Exit 10 (Route 146A) and follow Route 146A to Route 104.

The lane split will be in place until the fall when the split shifts to the southbound lanes.

The project is scheduled for completion in Summer 2022.
