Smithfield Announces Parking Ban, Closures Ahead Of Snow

The parking ban will be in effect from 12 p.m. Thursday until 12 a.m. Saturday.

SMITHFIELD, RI — The Town of Smithfield has implemented a parking ban in effect from 12 p.m. Thursday to 12 a.m. Saturday and announced school cancellations due to winter weather that is expected to bring three to seven inches of snow to Rhode Island.

During the parking ban, all on-street parking is prohibited to allow for snow plow operators to clear the roads. Vehicles that are not moved ahead of the ban may be towed at the owner's expense.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory Thursday morning that will be in effect until 7 p.m. Friday. Hazardous road conditions are expected and drivers should be prepared for delays during the morning and evening commutes.

The following schools in Smithfield have announced cancellations in preparation for the weather:

  • Bryant University will switch to remote classes starting at 2 p.m. on Thursday and lasting all day Friday
