Smithfield To Begin Curbside Christmas Tree Collection
Smithfield's Christmas tree curbside collection program will run for two weeks starting Jan. 6; wait on recycling holiday light strings.

SMITHFIELD, RI —It's time to get ride of that Christmas tree that arrived in the house full and lively last month and since has been reduced to a batch of brittle branches. For the next two weeks starting Monday, Smithfield will take the drying trunks and the needles that remain during curbside tree removal.
Smithfield will offer the curbside pickup of trees and wreaths on residents' regularly scheduled collection days from Jan. 6 through Jan. 17. All decorations, ornaments and garland must be removed prior to college. Residents are asked not to bag or wrap trees.
Remove all light strings and wires from the tree and do not put them in your curbside recycling cart because they tend to wrap around the sorting equipment, causing costly shutdowns. Residents are asked to bring holiday lights strands and wires to the town's electronics recycling event on March 14 at the Smithfield DPW to keep them out of the landfill.
