Smithfield Commended For Accounting, Financial Reporting
For the 11th year in a row, Smithfield has received a Certificate of Achievement of Excellence in Financial Reporting.
SMITHFIELD, RI — The town of Smithfield has been recognized for its finances and transparency for the 11th year in a row. According to town officials, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has awarded Smithfield with a certificate of achievement of excellence in financial reporting — the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.
Town officials said being honored with the certificate represents a significant accomplishment.
"We are honored to receive this esteemed award for the 11th consecutive year, and it truly reflects the hard work and dedication that the Town staff demonstrate every day," said Town Manager Randy Rossi in a statement. "This certificate expresses the Town's commitment to the highest standards and transparency in the delivery of financial information to the public."

The certificate of achievement has been issued for the year that ended June 30, after a review by an impartial panel, town officials say. Among the criteria was the town demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story, according to town officials.
