Smithfield Election Results In Biden, Trump Race

Smithfield's unofficial results from the November 3 election are in.

SMITHFIELD, RI—Unofficial results from the November 3 election in Smithfield show that the Trump campaign has a slight lead among the town's voters despite a general lead among Democratic candidates.

The majority of Smithfield voters also voted against the statewide ballot question. Question 1 did pass, however, meaning the official name of the state will change, dropping "Providence Plantations" from its title.

According to Rhode Island Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea, voters in Rhode Island overwhelmingly chose to vote by mail, with 83 percent sending mail-in ballots compared the the nine percent of voters who voted by mail in the 2016 general election.
