Smithfield To Hold Recycling, Shredding Event At DPW

The Smithfield Department of Public Works will hold the household recycling and shredding event on March 14.

SMITHFIELD, RI — A recycling event for household items will be held March 14 at the Smithfield Department of Public Works from 9 a.m. to noon. Items accepted will include electronics, bedding and bulk, rigid plastics. There will also be sensitive-document shredding available.

Document shredding is open to Smithfield residents with proof of residency required. Up to four boxes are accepted with no appointment needed.

Clean and dry box springs and mattresses will be accepted from Smithfield residents with proof of residency.

Bulk plastics will be accepted from Smithfield residents with proof of residency. They must be entirely made of plastic (no PVC) and be larger than a hard hat and smaller than a 95-gallon container.

Electronics will be accepted without a residency restriction. Just about anything with a plug will be accepted. Items containing coolant, wood-encased speakers and laser printers will be charged a $10 fee.
