Smithfield Man Charged After Fight at Liquor Store
Derek Rose, 40, faces domestic violence charges following his Sept. 14 arrest.

Smithfield Police charged a local man with domestic assault on a person over 60 years old and domestic disorderly conduct following a reported fight at Smithfield Liquors on Sept. 14.
Derek Rose, 40, of Hillcrest Avenue, posted bail and is awaiting further court hearings.
Ptlm. David Walsh reported that he was on a traffic stop at about 5:15 p.m. when another car stopped near his cruiser, and the driver told him there had been a fight at the liquor store.
Walsh wrote that he went to Smithfield Liquors and found "several customers" standing outside.
After going into the store, Walsh reported that he found Rose inside with blood on his shirt.
Walsh also wrote that Rose "appeared intoxicated," and was carrying an empty vodka bottle in his pocket.
Rose said that he'd been in a fight with his stepfather, William DeSimone, and Walsh called for other officers to go to his home.
Officers presented Rose for arraignment at the police station before Justice of the Peace Christopher Millea, who released Rose with a court date of Nov. 18 and issued a no-contact order.
