Smithfield Man Charged With Placing Explosive On Greenbrier Road
Smithfield police charged Anthony Rubino with arson and malicious injury to private property in connection with Wednesday morning explosion.
SMITHFIELD, RI — A Smithfield man is facing arson, placing an explosive device and vandalism/malicious destruction of property charges after police said he detonated an explosive at a home on Greenbrier Road as part of an ongoing dispute Wednesday morning.
Police said Anthony Rubino, 35, was released on $10,000 personal recognizance on the felony charges and scheduled to appear for pre-arraignment conference on Aug. 25. Personal recognizance was set at $1,000 for the vandalism charge, with a date to appear for pretrial hearing of Sept. 15.
Police said they were called to Greenbrier Road on Wednesday morning about 8:45 a.m. for a report of a window damaged by an explosive device. Neighbors said a numerous neighbors reported hearing an explosion about 5 a.m. and police said the window and screen were destroyed, with charring around the frame.

Police said evidence collected with the RI State Fire Marshals Office pointed to an improvised explosive device. The victims said it could have been part of an ongoing dispute with the suspect from, which included vandalism of a vehicle on May 21.
Police said that, based on the investigation into the May 21 incident, they obtained an arrest warrant for Rubino. Police said the Sprague Street resident was arrested without incident after further investigation connected him to the Greenbrier Road explosion.

Rubino was charged with placing of an explosive device, vandalism/malicious injury to property and fourth-degree arson.
