Smithfield Memorial Day Ceremony Canceled Amid Coronavirus Crisis
Smithfield Balfour-Cole Post 64 asked residents to take pause to remember those who gave their lives for their country.

SMITHFIELD, RI — The Memorial Day remembrance ceremony in Smithfield scheduled for May 25 has been canceled due to the new coronavirus health crisis.
The Smithfield Balfour-Cole Post 64 announced the decision on Tuesday. In place of the ceremony, resident are asked to take time out of their day to remember those who gave their lives for their country.
"We hope their sacrifice will never be forgotten," Post 64 said in a release.

Post 64 also urges residents to take some time on Memorial Day to look at the webpage dedicated to Smithfield war memorials.
While Gov. Gina Raimondo lifted the stay-at-home order in the state on Saturday, she has maintained a limit of five in any social gathering through at least May 23. While she said the limit may be increased to 10 at that time, residents will remain urged to limit their social interactions with different groups of people as restrictions are slowly eased.
