Smithfield Parents Unhappy Over Proposal to Charge Fees for Rec Fields and Courts
A reader tells Patch the parents and coaches were going to the Town Council meeting on Tuesday night to protest.

SMITHFIELD, RI—Patch reader Johanna Merz Corcoran said last night some parents had recently learned about a plan to require payment from youth sports leagues which use Town playing fields.
"The Town of Smithfield is proposing to start charging rec leagues and others for the use of sports facilities like fields, and courts," she said. "The is ridiculous, and many parents are planning to attend the town meeting tonight to make our voices heard."
According to WJAR-TV, the Town Council on Tuesday night tabled the plan but will hold a meeting in the future to discuss the pros and cons.
