Smithfield Police Looking For Credit Union Robbery Suspect

Police responded to Navigant Credit Union, which is located at 468 Putnam Pike, for a reported robbery.

SMITHFIELD, RI—The Smithfield Police Department is asking the public for help in locating a man wanted in connection with a bank robbery that occurred Thursday morning.

According to police, at 11:48 p.m. they responded to Navigant Credit Union, which is located at 468 Putnam Pike, for a reported robbery. Initial reports advised officers that a man wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt and a face mask had run from the bank and headed in a westerly direction after demanding money from the bank teller.

Once on scene, however, officers searched for a suspect but didn't find one.

A clerk told police that a man did approach the counter and handed the clerk a light-colored nylon bag, and told the clerk to put “100’s, 50’s and 20’s in the bag, No dye packs, No GPS! Hurry the f *** up. Don’t look at me!”

The man then grabbed the bag and fled the bank on foot, police said.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned male, possibly white or Hispanic, approximately 5’6’' tall, thin build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt over a light colored baseball cap, a blue surgical type face mask, jeans, white sneakers and blue rubber gloves.

Police said suspect was seen on video surveillance running westerly toward an apartment complex.
