Travel Advisory: Lane Closures For Bridge Work In Smithfield
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation will close lanes on I-295 in Smithfield beginning March 26.
SMITHFIELD, RI — The Rhode Island Department Of Transportation (RIDOT) is set to begin a 10-bridge preservation project along I-295 in Smithfield on March 26, resulting in lane closures in both directions where the highway passes over Mountaindale Road near Exit 12.
In addition to the I-295 lane closures, Mountaindale Road under the bridge may have a lane closed on weekdays and the bridge carrying Route 116 may have some lane closures during overnight hours from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The lane closures on I-295, which will be in place for approximately five months on weeknights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., are part of RIDOT's project to extend the useful life of 10 area bridges to prevent the need for more costly bridge rehabilitation or replacement projects.
