Travel Advisory: Route 104 Closures In North Smithfield
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation is scheduled to install new beams on Farnum Pike Bridge on Friday, May 21.

SMITHFIELD, RI — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) has announced that it will close Route 104 at the Route 146 overpass in North Smithfield on Friday, May 21 to install new beams on Farnum Pike Bridge.
The closure will be in effect from 8 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday. Drivers on Route 104 South will follow a detour using the on-ramp to Route 146 North, reversing direction to Route 146 South at the Pound Hill Road exit and then using the Route 104 exit. Drivers on Route 104 North will be directed to use Route 5, North Smithfield Industrial Drive, Pound Hill Road and Smithfield Road to return to Route 104.
The Farnum Pike Bridge was built in 1958 and carries approximately 40,000 vehicles per day, according to RIDOT. The $13.9 million project to rebuild the two bridges is scheduled to be completed in summer 2022.
