What on Earth is that Noise?

Mysterious noise in North Providence.

How often have we heard news stories where a mysterious sound tormented a neighborhood? I never expected to be one of those unfortunate people...but I am.

I live in North Providence near the Smithfield border, and I started hearing a low, pulsating hum eight or nine months ago. At first, I thought it was the sound of a machine at a nearby construction site. The sound would blare nonstop all night, and I would hear it despite the earplugs that I wear to sleep. It was loud and obnoxious, and literally gave me headaches. I thought that it only sounded at night, until I realized that I could hear it during the day in the absence of noise. I finally asked my mother if she could hear it, and to my surprise, her answer was 'yes'. It wasn't in my ears after all!

I called the police department, and they said that they can't hear it and have no idea what it is. Meanwhile, I hear it day and night, pulsing like a heartbeat and driving me mad. Occasionally, the tempo changes; it either speeds up or the pulsating evens out.

Day after day passed without the noise stopping, and I eventually wondered if it was my ears after all...maybe my mother was hearing something different? I had no way to find out for sure...until I unexpectedly ended up sleeping somewhere different for four nights.

On July 10th, I unexpectedly landed in Fatima Hospital with a case of diverticulitis and sepsis. I was a patient there until July 14th, and each of those nights, the sound was there, but was much softer! What did that mean? That something is causing this mysterious sound somewhere near my house; otherwise it wouldn't seem quieter from Fatima.

When the day came for me to finally leave the hospital, part of me wondered if maybe the sound was in my ears but was actually going away, making it seem softer...but no; I came home and there it was, pulsing away at its usual volume. As I type this article right now, all I can hear is *foom foom foom foom foom* AHHHHH!

Does anyone else reading this article live near the high school or Fatima, and hear this incessant, maddening sound? Has anyone learned what on earth it is? If so, please let me know, or I might check myself into Fatima again just to avoid it!
