Your Guide: Games of Old at Smith-Appleby House
Test your strength and skill at Smith-Appleby House in Smithfield on Saturday.

As part of its "Rhody Ramble Open House" series, the Smith-Appleby House is hosting "Games of Old" on Saturday, July 27 starting at 1 p.m.
Visitors can test their strength at the tug-of-war or their skill at the Game of graces — or put their concentration to the ultimate contest in a match of Nine Men's Morris.
The Colonial-themed game day is also scheduled to include 9-pin bowling, sack races, and hoops.
If you've never been to the Smith-Appleby House — or even if you have — the weather should be perfect to visit the 17th-century home set on land that was granted to John Smith by Rhode Island founder Roger Williams.
And while there have been a few updates — including the "modern" kitchen with beehive oven constructed in 1813 — the old house retains its historical character as a true living reminder of the early days of Rhode Island history.
Players are invited to retire to the house for a tour following the outdoor games. Admission is $5 for adults, children are free.
