ST. THOMAS, USVI — Turtle and beer enthusiasts rejoice! Leatherback Brewing Company is teaming up with turtle conservation organizations throughout the Virgin Islands. Their goal: serve great beer and save some turtles.

The brewery will release new, small-batch beers every few weeks at their tasting rooms on St. Thomas and St. Croix and some of the proceeds will go to turtle conservation efforts.

The first event is this Saturday, May 22nd featuring a Szechuan Peppercorn White IPA and live music! A portion of the proceeds from sales will go to the St. Thomas Sea Turtle Project and the Sea Turtle Assistance and Rescue (STAR) Network of the Virgin Islands. Staff from both organizations will be onsite from noon to 6pm to answer questions about sea turtle research and conservation in the USVI.

Leatherback will feature more "Hatchling Release" beers over the next few months. The next one is on World Sea Turtle Day, a.k.a June 16. Each event will benefit a different organization focused on turtle conservation.

"There are many organizations in the Virgin Islands that are working with turtles in various ways. We want to provide support to all of them and we plan to have more events centered around our Hatchlings Release series allowing us to provide support to as many as we can," said Ivy Hunter, the Retail and Marketing Manager for Leatherback Brewing Company.
