Dr. Wu, Well-Known St. Thomas Resident, Struck By Truck Monday
Mr. Wu was crossing Rumer Drive on Monday night, June 29, when he was struck by a Mack truck. Police say he was flown off-island for care.
ST. THOMAS, USVI — On Monday, June 27, at approximately 8:39 p.m., a 60-year-old male pedestrian entered the southbound lane of Rumer Drive and was struck by a Mack commercial vehicle that was heading southward.
Toby Derima, public information officer for the Virgin Islands Police Department, confirmed that the pedestrian was a man known as Mr. Wu. Mr. Wu, known by some as Dr. Wu, is a well-known presence on St. Thomas, famous for his skills at chess and general charisma.
Mr. Wu was transported to the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment, where he was listed in critical condition with major injuries about the body. He has since been flown out of the territory for additional medical care.
