First Vaccine Lottery Drawing July 9, Win Up To $100,000

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — The first Vax to Win USVI drawing is on July 9. Eligible residents can win up to $100,000.

Here's a quick reminder of the rules:

  • If you receive a vaccine in the territory, you are automatically registered for the lottery.
  • If you are partially vaccinated, meaning you have one shot of the Pfizer or Moderna, you can win up to $50,000.
  • If you are fully vaccinated, meaning you've received both doses of either vaccine, you can win up to $100,000.
  • Two winners from each district (St. Croix and St. Thomas/St. John) will be announced every week for the next 10 weeks.

There is also a special drawing for school-based personnel. First prize is $25,000, second prize is $10,000 and third prize is $5,000. Three winners will be announced from each school district. The qualifying rules are slightly different from the other lottery:

  • Individuals can be employed by public or private schools.
  • Must be fully vaccinated by August 9.
  • Individuals must register in order to qualify. You can register at www.VaxtoWinUSVI.com, by calling 340-777-VACS (8227), or register in-person at the public community vaccine centers or at the administrator's office on St. John.

Vax to Win USVI is run by the Virgin Islands Lottery. In his weekly address, Governor Albert Bryan Jr. clarified that funding for the lottery was authorized by the Biden Administration. The administration reportedlyt set aside $11 million to be used nationally for vaccine promotion, including ads, promotional concerts and lotteries like Vax to Win USVI.
