U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — The latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center states that a low pressure system located 100 miles east-southeast of Barbados has less than a 10% chance of forming into a storm. Thunderstorm activity is decreasing and increasing upper-level winds are expected to prevent any further development of the system.

However, forecasters have also identified a strong tropical wave emerging off the coast of Africa this morning. According to the latest outlook, ocean temperatures are still relatively cool and therefore only marginally conducive for storm development, but a small tropical depression could form by early next week as the system moves westward.

Forecasters are giving the system a 40% chance of forming into a tropical cyclone over the next five days.
