ST. THOMAS, USVI — It rots. It smells. It's everywhere.

The sargassum keeps coming in. It covers St. Thomas beaches like a wet, shag carpet. It chokes the coves and makes swimming nearly impossible. The truth is, Patch USVI can't stop covering it because we can't get away from it.

Michael Campbell snapped this photo of the unstoppable seaweed clogging the beach at the Margaritaville Resort in St. Thomas. Woe to the visitors who have to place their towels next to those piles of seaweed.
